Skater Tee!

Hello, everyone!

Long friggin time, eh?!?  It seems as though lately, whenever I feel like sewing, I have no desire to blog, and when I'm like "hey, I want to blog something!", I've got nothing sewn.  I need to balance my chakras or something, I think.  :)

I wanted to show y'all this super easy, super customizable staple that I made waaaaay back during the last Kids Clothes Week!  Just like two months ago, NBD.

This yellow ray of sunshine is a Kitschy Coo Skater Dress turned long sleeved tee, with a little help from my Bimaa pattern!

To make the Skater Dress into a tee, I simply lengthened the bodice front back pieces by 5" and straightened the hem.  I used the Skater arms, cuffs, and neckband.  I used the Bimma waistband to finish the hem.  This tee has a great, easy fit, and it's such a FAST way to add long sleeved tees to your kiddos wardrobe in knit fabrics that are more personalized than what you'd tend to find in stores!

Speaking of fabric, can you even handle this yellow Happy Girls print?!  It's also from Kitschy Coo (I have this problem where I want ALL the Kitschy Coo fabrics and patterns. I know it. I'm in counseling. No I'm not, I just got some blue vikings knit to make Fancy Pants Leggings for my nephews - lol help ;)  This print is so lively and sweet, and it adds some much welcomed sunshine to dark, cold winter days!

Old Gray Mare photobomb:

So there is one of my latest makes!  Pretty darling, eh?

I hope you are all having wonderful winters, wherever you are located... And the happiest of holidays! Hopefully I'll be climbing back aboard this ol' blog of mine once the hecticness winds down.

The cutest.

Have a great rest of your weekend, all!!!

Scandinavian Style!

Good morning, and welcome Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy Crafts readers!

I am super excited to be a part of the Scandinavian Style Sewing Series!

I'll be honest - even though I was so thrilled to be asked to be a part of this series, I didn't know the first (or second, or third) thing about Scandinavian style.  Not one thing.

So I consulted homegirl Amanda who knows heaps about Scandinavian style, and I made sure to stay tuned in to Stacey's Scandi Pinterest board.  Over the course of a few weeks, I came up with this complete outfit for Em!

I was really inspired by all of the simple separates, the not-too-girly girl fashions, the fun and colorful prints, the great use of black, and the super cool outerwear I was seeing.  These two photos below became my main inspirations:

LEFT //||\\ RIGHT

So cute, right?!  So here's the details!

The cape: I used Andrea's Go-To Cape for Girls, and I LOVE IT. This was such fun to sew!  The outer fabric is an amazing medium weight wool coating from Denver Fabrics (which I purchased to make a jacket for myself - fail), and the lining is a plum colored rayon with a subtle woven-in texture (that I failed to get a picture of, ehhhh). I squared off the hood pattern piece to add a little bit more magical woodland fairy sprite-ness to the cape.  Or, 'she looks like a gnome', as the hubs more concisely put it.

The skirt:  Easy peasy!!!  Two rectangles - one 7" x 38", one 9" x 38", slap together, make an elastic casing, insert elastic, narrow rolled hems, done.  BOOM.  If I make another like this (I think I will!), it'll be fuller and it'll have pockets!  This fabric is a super soft lightweight linen/wool blend from the stash.  Hurrah for stash-busting, and quick skirts!

The tee: It's a Bimaa/Skater Dress love child, y'all!  More precisely, it's a Bimaa with a Skater Dress neckline - a pretty sweet one-two punch if I do say so!  The fabric is also via my Scandi-tutor Kitschy Coo, and it's literally the highest quality knit I've ever had the pleasure to sew with.  Treat yourself if ever you can - it is so incredibly worth it!

The tights are from Target (MUST OWN ALL THE TARGET TIGHTS ARRHHGG), and the boots are from Kohls.

So there it is, my Scandinavian Style look!  I'm really, really proud of this outfit, and Emmylou loves it as well.  She's going to get so much wear out of all three of these pieces, so that's a win for both of us!

There are some incredibly talented and stylish folk in this series - do head over to Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy Crafts to check them out!  And thanks again Stacey for having me!  This was awesome.  :)

Love to all!

A Tote and a Coupon!

Hey guys!  Long time no blog, ey?!
I'm still here - just needed a breather.  I have things to show you!
My friend Kelley from Casa Crafty had a super cool idea - she would send a fat quarter of laminated Echino (from her shop here!) to a handful of sewist, and they could make anything!

I made a big ol' TOTE!

I chose this gorgeous aqua print laminate - it was love at first sight.  I paired it with a natural canvas and a faux leather vinyl - both from my new place of employ - OnlineFabricStore.net!  YES! I work at a fabric store these days!  It's heaven.... :)

Close up:  How magical is this laminated Echino?!

The inside is this gray woodgrain twill that I unintentionally cut in the wrong direction. STILL LOVE IT.
And the handles are also from my new job!  They are cotton webbing found here.  It is SO DANGEROUS to work among so much fabric, but it's also really awesome - I'm learning so much about fabrics I knew nothing about before!

So there is my fun new tote!  So handy, and so durable with these fabrics! I needed a tote bag, and one is extra awesome thanks to Kelleys fabric!
Kelley has super generously offered you guys 25% your entire purchase from the Casa Crafty Shop with code

EMMY25
good through the end of the month!  How awesome is that!?

I have more to share with you guys this week, so I'll be around! How you're all having and great autumn!

The Bimaa Tour - Skirt as Top & Hungie Gungie

Good morning, and a happy weekend to you!

It's the FINAL DAY of the Bimaa Sweater Pattern Tour!  I just can't believe all of the amazing Bimaa's that have come out of this tour.  I am blown away by the mad skills of my tourees!  I thank each one of them so very much for being a part of this tour.

So, today!  First up is Kristin of Skirt as Top!  Kristin has two adorable (soon to be three!) babes to sew for, and her daughter reminds me of an older Emmylou!  On Skirt as Top you'll find gorgeous sewing, not only for kiddos, but Kristin also makes beautiful things for herself (like, gorgeous)!  But, today, it's all about the Magentaa Bimaa!

Next (and last!) up is Erin of Hungie Gungie!  Do you know that whole 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon thing?  Well, Erin and I are separated by like one degree.  And that one degree is a tiny pink cottage in Lee, Massachusetts where she used to live, and where I used to go to parties with my then boyfriend! Lol. We missed each other by like, less than a year. Apparently the blogging world is a really small one!  Anyway!  Erin makes the coolest clothes (this being a personal fave) for her impossibly adorable brood.  Behold - The Hungie Gungie Eared Bimaa!

So that's IT, guys!

Two incredible weeks of Bimaa's sewn by this crew of ladies I'm proud to call friends.

I think I'm going to try to make a pretty sweet round-up of all the Bimaa's from the tour.  I am having major computer issues though (of the I-need-a-whole-new-computer persuasion), so I don't know if a round up would be tomorrow or Monday.

Thank you all SO MUCH for touring along with me!  This has been just awesome.

Love love love,

First up today is Celina from Petit a Petit and Family!  Celina is an incredibly stylish and creative maker!  Her photography is stunning, her sewing is divine, and she is one of the kindest people I've ever had the pleasure to know!  I was floored when Celina sent me pictures of her Bimaa - Head over to Petit a Petit!

Next up today is Susan of Living With Punks!  It was kind of moment when I saw that Susan signed up to be on this tour - I was a little star struck!  I have followed her blog for years (I still have her floor cushion on my to-do list!)!  And now Susan has sewn one of my patterns!  Can't deal!  And how adorbs!?:

Have a great Friday, everyone!

The Bimaa Tour - Kitschy Coo & Sew A Straight Line

Heloooo!

(HUGE PUBLIC APOLOGIES to Amanda and Sabra for being so late in getting this post up.  I am fifty shades of hot mess today, and I am so sorry.  Please readers -show these guys some extra love, ok? :)

The Bima Sweater pattern tour rolls on today! With two more super talented ladies, no less!
First up is Amanda of Kitschy Coo. Amanda, whom I had the pleasure of meeting in real life this past summer (!!!), is the brilliant mind behind such patterns as the Skater Dress and the Lady Skater.  I adore Amanda - you will too, if you don't already.  LOOK at what she's done with her Bimma!:

Next up is Sabra of Sew A Straight Line!  This lucky lady has the most adorable children I can't even.  Sabra is also an incredibly talented seamstress (she's made skinny jeans, people. For herself.)  I love all things Sew A Straight Line, including these two awesome Bimaa's!

Thank you so much Sabra and Amanda, and again - so sorry!

Come back tomorrow for the second to last Bimaa Day!
