THREE Reasons to Celebrate!

Here to announce three fantastic things, the first being that finally,  f i n a l l y , the hoodie addendum to the Bimaa pattern has been sketched, drafted, graded, digitized, made pretty, and IS FINAL!

And man, is it ever cute.  :)

The Bimaa hoodie is a three-piece hood, creating a really great fit - it's not too big, and it's not too small.  I will be doing a tutorial soon for how to add ears to your Bimaa hoodie!  CAN YOU EVEN!?  EARS.

Second amazing thing?  I sold my 200th pattern from my little shop last night.  Nearly cried.  I am so proud of this baby of mine, and I am BURSTING at the seams with fresh new ideas.  Hold onto your hats, guys.

The gratitude and love I have for all of you and your incredible support is difficult to put into words.  So, until I can form sentences with those words, please enjoy as a thank you this third awesome thing:

Heidi and Finn - Slouchy Cardigan

So I mentioned last week that I had the pleasure of pattern testing for Heidi and Finn.  Today the pattern is available!  Check out the Slouchy Cardigan:

This pattern is so great!  It's a super fast make, and knits (especially sweater knits) are just my favorite favorite fabrics to sew with.  Not to mention the Slouchy Cardigan is so comfy for kids.  I want this sweater for me.  A lot.

I used a ponte knit for this version, and I can't remember where I got it!  I think I'm going to start cutting little swatches of my fabrics when I get them so I can remember what it is and where it's from!  Do any of you guys do something like that?  Or do I just buy too much fabric?  NEVAAR!

As with all Heidi and Finn patterns, you don't need a serger to put this beauty together.  But if you DO have a serger, this cardigan is a less-than-an-hour project.  Another super quick and unfathomably adorable Heidi and Finn pattern is the Ballet Sweater, that I made HERE for this past Spring's Kids Clothes Week!

So go forth, and collect all the cozy Fall sweater knits!  Make all the sweaters!   :D

InstaFriday 8.16.13

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I hope you all had a great week.  I sure did - I got a BOATLOAD of sewing done - which feels spectacular since I've been in such a lull lately.  Sewjo's back, baby!  :D

So, this week in Instagram Shenanigans... 

I got mega-lucky and was asked to pattern test for Heidi and Finn - the newest pattern is called the Slouchy Cardigan, and it's fantaaaastic.  I should be able to blog it next week at some point!

I got mega-lucky again, and was asked to pattern test Rachael's new adult pattern, the Bess Top!  That'll be up on the blog soon, too!  Here it is mid-sew... Check that sweet pleat!

I sewed a tee shirt!  Last night!  Waiting for my laundry to dry!  

Want the recipe for fastest-tee-shirt-ever (second only to the lightningspeed Tumble Tee)?  Kitschy Coo's Skater Dress bodice, lengthened 4-5 inches, plus my Bimaa hem band piece. Boom. One dryer cycle > one tee shirt.

I dyed this sweater.

Meh.

I sewed up a final run-through of the hood addition to my Bimaa Sweater!  And took pics of Emmy wearing it while she was super sick with a cold and I can't stop lolllling because she looks like she wants to eat the souls of kittens in this picture.  L O L.  Poor dear. :)

The hood will be finalized and published next week!  There will also be a pattern tour for the Bimaa this October!  Stay tuned for that!  So excited, I can't even.

Tumble Tee Tour and Pattern Giveaway!

Good morning, friends!

Well, it has been the Summer of Pattern Tours around here!  I really couldn't be more grateful for that - my sewing mojo has been on quite the rollercoaster ride for the past few months!  These lovely patterns I get to stitch up are like a burst of fresh new energy.  :)

Today, I get to share my version of the imagine gnats Tumble Tee!

This pattern is a super cute tee or dress with HEAPS of options, like color-blocking!  I chose the tee - we are lacking in the tee department over here - especially basic, goes-with-everything, tees.  So that's exactly what I made!

I used the same drapey, delicious black modal as I did for my Lady Skater dress.  It's the softest stuff ever.  Perfect for a comfy basic tee!

BUT I didn't want to go tooooo basic!  So I added a back yoke panel in this cotton feather print I've had kicking around for a bit.  I love the result!  It's got a similar vibe to color-blocking, but the main pattern pieces stayed intact.  Seriously, I want this shirt for myself, and I'm scheming ways to make that happen.  Ha!

This fabric is like sewing butter, so I knew I wasn't going to have great luck turning and stitching the neck and arm hems.  I opted to serge on thin strips of banding to finish these areas.  It's as nice a finish as I was going to get with this material!  For the hem, I used a double needed and some iron-on stabilizer.  

Emmy has had a cold all week so it was a struggle getting her into not pajamas, and out the door to take pics.  I'm glad we did though!  She looks so cute in her Tumble Tee!  And she's also rocking some minty Hosh Pants!  Great combo, eh!?  :D

Seriously, tell me you don't want this entire outfit?!?

I adore this pattern, and it's designer!  It's a great staple piece, which I LOVE.  I really want to try a color-blocked version.  I can see this pattern going miiiiiiles and miles for us!

When We Were Young

Happy, happy Wednesday to you all!

I AM SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS POST!

If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen sneak peeks of this project over the last week or so.  Today, I finally get to share it.  The super kind and mega talented Suz from sewpony has an incredible sewing series called When We Were Young.  The mission is to find a photo of yourself from your childhood and recreate what you were wearing in it for your child.  What a fantastic idea, right?

Click through to sewpony to see what I made for Em, inspired by a picture of me as a three-year-old!  It's one of my proudest finished garments to date.  I hope you like it, too!

Prefontaine Shorts World Tour!

Hey hey!  Happy Thursday!

Welcome to my stop on the Made with Moxie Prefontaine World Tour!

I am so excited I got to be a part of this pattern tour.  I fell deeply in love with these shorts back during Shorts on the Line.  That's when I made the crazy fish towel Prefontaines - remember?  :D

It's just the cutest pair of shorts, is it not?!

For this pair, I went in quite the opposite direction from the fish shorts.  I went with practical, lol.

These are a lovely lightweight red linen from Fabric Mart (similar here), and the binding is a super soft floral knit from Girl Charlee.

There are so many ways you can play with fabric combination for these shorts, but ultimately I'm glad I stayed on the straight and narrow for this pair.  I love them, and so does Emmy!

This is Em contemplating why I told her she probably shouldn't eat crab apples off the ground.  She totally didn't get it. "But they're so CUUUTE".  Nope.  Keep it moving, kid.  

The Prefontaine Shorts sew up very quickly, and are really fun to make!

I super recommend this pattern if you're looking for a cute, quick pair of shorts for your girl OR for your boy!

We absolutely LOVE our Prefontaines!
