New Sewing Room - The Grand Tour

(((* UPDATE - Go HERE to see the latest tour of my sewing room! *)))

Ah!  It's finished!  My new sewing oasis!

Care to join me on a tour?  S'go!
[See some of the construction photos here.]

Let's start here at the ironing board (that needs recovering):
Ironing area!  Note the dryer vent trying to encroach.  Don't think so buddy.  WIP shelf bottom left - not too full!  Yay!  Also serger mat in progress on the ironing board!

Moving along to the left:
Ahh.. Gettin' to the good stuff!  Under the desk - trash can, small scrap basket, large scrap/wadder basket.  Up top - old CD rack turned ribbon holder, wall mounted spool racks, and of course, machines!

Here's a close up of the CD/ribbon rack!  The real small spools of ribbon don't fit on this - they fall through - but I've only got a few of those anyway, and they've been demoted to a drawer.

My desk is technically an artists' desk - it can be angled up for drawing and painting and whatnot.  But, obvi, I keep it flat.  What I LOVE about it though, are these little compartments on the right:

My scissors, rotary cutters,  rulers, bias tape makers, bobby pins, pattern weights, old paint stains, dust kittens.

Glorious!  Notion drawer to the left of the desk... Wood shelf with patterns, large cuts of fleece, flannel, etc.  Look how I stealthily covered all the wires and cords under the desk with my sewing machine case!

Moving along to the Shelves of Sewing Paradise...

SwooOOoon...

Patterns!  The ones in the large box are PDF types, like Burda and other printables.  The regular envelope patterns are in the cardboard box I have yet to cover & make pretty.  Yummy fabrics rolled in a basket just cuz, FQs, sewing basket (with manuals, needles, feet, etc.), a basket with various trims, and some wools I couldn't fit elsewhere.

So whaddaya think?!?!  Amazing, right?  I love it so much!  How super inspiring to have everything all in one place, and SO organized!

Ok, I can't chat anymore.  Must go sew.

Love to all!

  2. OMG i am sooo jealous! this looks amazing! I've seen some people loop their ribbon thru the wood dowels, you know what I'm talking about?

p.s. I love your buttons jar! so cute!

  3. Thank you Steph!! Yeah, it's drool-worthy having all my fabric to stare at! Inspiring!

Hadar, thank you!! And yes, I know what you mean about the dowels... I actually tried to dismantle the CD rack and put the ribbon spools through the dowel things, but the holes in most of my spools were too small, if that makes sense. So this will do for now!

    I LOVE IT!! :D

  7. Thank you ladies!!!
Ya know what's funny, I have my fabrics organized by type - voiles/silkies, cottons, random apparel fabric, knits, and flannel/corduroy. But I was going to like, REALLY organize them before I took pics (maybe or maybe not rainbow ordered), but my excitement got the better of me... and I just left them where they landed! Doesn't look too bad, I guess! Yay!

Booboo, YES! Party, please. And orders, please. :)

  15. First of all- lucky you to have your own room- so jealous! Second, I was just at Goodwill today and was thinking that the old CD racks looked like they'd be useful but didn't have any ideas. I might have to make a trip back there! Where did you get the desk/table? Lastly, I LOVE how you put your PDF patterns in the folders with images on the front! What a great way to easily find what you're looking for. THanks for sharing!

  16. looks good! have you seen where you make fabric bolts out of foam board to wrap your fabric around and stack up and down? think that looks really neat and I plan to do that in my craft room.

  17. Erica, that's so funny about the CD rack!! Go get one! :D

The desk...? That's a good question! My first artistic endeavor ever (like when I was 8) was painting, so I imagine I got it way back then... It's old! But dang, it's perfect.

And the PDF files? I AGREE! I love them! I work in a law firm and we have these manila legal sized folders that no one uses anymore, and they are PERFECT!

Thanks so much for visiting and the kind words!

  18. Shelly, thank you!!!

And yes, I've seen those mini-bolt things you're talking about! Thanks for reminding me - those would really streamline a lot of my fabric!

    Cheers!

  32. Love it. I need to organize my painting studio and my sewing room. So true that you can get so much more done when there is a place for everything and everything is IN its place. Love the fabric shelves, mine is in the big plastic tubs, not nearly as pretty!

  33. CAS, thank you so much!

Julie - no prob, if I ever find myself with too much fabric, I'll send it your way! ;)

  45. Your fabric shelf looks amazing! I hope to get mine that organized. I have a question about your notion drawer stack... I have the same stack, but my drawers like to 'fall through' - they don't stay in the glides - we have tightened it, but the rack still seems slightly too wide - do you have any trouble with yours? I LOVE the size of these drawers and hate the idea of scrapping the cart! Very nice room!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Grammie! Thank you! :)

I can't say I've had that problem with the drawers... They are a little fussy, but I haven't had any issues with them falling through. I wish I could help you out! It's the perfect drawer-thingy for notions!

  47. Looooove. My husband kept trying to get me to buy metal shelves but I could only picture them in the standard black and kept putting him off...but your green shelf may have just changed my mind! Fabbo work space!
